7 Personal Finance Gifts for PF Fans

Do you have a personal finance lover in your life but aren’t quite sure what to get for him?

Are you a personal finance enthusiast but don’t know what to ask?

Or maybe you have children or teens and want to give them a gift that will help them in the future.

Or maybe better yet, maybe you’re looking for that great gift to give someone who needs to be better with their money and you want to point them in the right direction?

Being a PF geek, I thought I’d make it easier for you. If you’re wondering what to get the personal finance enthusiast in your life, here are seven ideas.

If the personal finance lover in your life enjoys a bit of fun, he or she will love having a money-related board game.

Here are some ideas for you:

Board games make an excellent gift that can be fun to play with family or a group of friends. Who doesn’t like Monopoly? I used to play this game all the time when I was a kid and I still enjoy it now.

Here are more personal finance board games if you want more ideas.

Personal finance books

Most personal finance nerds I know (myself included) love books. There’s a good chance your PF lover already has an impressive collection of personal finance books, so you may have to do some investigating before purchasing.

Here are my suggestions:

Scanner

If you’re looking for a great gift for someone who likes to organize their finances digitally, a scanner is a great tool to help!

Scanners can be expensive, but for $300, you can get a useful tool that allows them to scan all of their personal finance documents.

My choice is Fujitsu SnapScan iX500 Scanner. You can connect this with Evernote and truly go paperless!

Magazine or newspaper subscriptions

If you’re not sure what a personal finance enthusiast already has in his or her library, a magazine subscription might be the answer. There are many great magazines on the topic of money. Plus, you can usually get magazine subscriptions for up to 90% off using services like DiscountMags.

Here are four good ones:

  • Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine
  • Consumer Reports magazine
  • Company magazine (For those with an entrepreneurial spirit)

You can also consider getting magazines related to your friend’s specific interests. There are magazines that cover all kinds of specific topics such as real estate, stock market investing, and business, to name a few.

A money-related journal would make a great, inexpensive gift.

Tax preparation software

Tax season is approaching, and if your PF-loving friend files his or her own taxes, tax preparation software would make a great gift.

There are many options but the most popular tax preparation software are TurboTax, H&R Block tax software, and Tax Slayer.

You can find the full list of the best tax software here.

This would be a great Christmas gift – just in time for tax season.

Money management software

Computer software – specifically, financial software – is another great idea. Personally, I like to stay organized and a good money management software is a nice way to keep everything in its right place.

Here are some good options for personal finance software:

There are paid and free versions of many different money management software. Although a lot of these programs are similar, Quicken seems to be the most popular paid version.

Budget book

While some people are obsessed with money management software, there are still old-fashioned people (like me) who prefer a book and pen for budgeting.

Budget books are exactly what they sound like: a book full of budget templates!

If all else fails, use cash

If you don’t know what you’re getting, just offer cash or a variation of it — like gift cards or even stocks!

Gift cards make great gifts for almost everyone, and I think they’re especially great gifts for personal finance fans. Ninety-nine percent of personal finance enthusiasts enjoy saving money. By purchasing a gift card for them, they will be able to save money on their regular expenses.

The more practical the gift card, the better.

You can also give a gift of stock! This is a really great gift for personal finance lovers because you’re helping them save for the future in a unique way! Check out our complete guide on the best way to give a stock gift.
