State tax deadlines
Most states match the federal schedule, but check directly with your state’s Department of Revenue.
Some states (including Hawaii, Iowa, and Louisiana) set different due dates, while others automatically extend them in the event of any disasters (which unfortunately happen on a semi-regular basis).

Federal estimated taxes can be paid on https://www.irs.gov/Payments. Estimated state taxes can be paid through most State Department revenue sites. If not, you may need to mail your payment.
Don’t forget to file estimated taxes, if necessary, so you can avoid penalties and interest.
File your taxes
Where and how should you file your taxes? Most tax software will handle annual income tax returns and addenda. Check here for the best tax software.
Note that some free tax filing software may not offer as much customer service as paid versions. If you want specific questions answered or need guidance from a real person, make sure these services are provided with the software.
If your taxes are fairly simple, filing your taxes online or through tax software is not difficult and will save you money. If your taxes are on the more complicated side or you don’t want to deal with filing documents, you’ll need to hire a tax professional, which will be more expensive.
Tax professionals can be found locally, or you can visit any of the big tax brands like H&R Block. They both have physical locations that allow you to talk to someone in person and have your questions answered.
There are also tax counseling programs for seniors, and Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for low-income families who need help. Check out this guide to free tax preparation.
